Let’s Discuss Hormones
Hormones play a huge role in our physical and mental wellbeing. They are essential for the regulation of growth, metabolism, and bodily functions such as reproduction and digestion. While hormones tend to peak during our teenage years, their production gradually decreases over time. This can have drastic effects on our overall health, including changes to libido and energy levels as we age.
On top of this, there is evidence that modern life is having an impact on hormone production rates. A recent study indicated that testosterone levels in 20 year olds today are close to those of 60 year old men 50 years ago. This could be due to any number of factors; from the use of processed foods to the increase in environmental pollution and toxins in our environment. Whatever the cause may be, it’s clear that there needs to be further exploration into how our lifestyles influence hormone production rates.
While hormone decline is a natural part of aging, it is possible for us to take steps to help maintain healthy hormonal balance throughout our lives. These steps include eating a balanced diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables; avoiding processed foods; exercising regularly; getting plenty of sleep; taking care of your mental health; limiting your alcohol consumption; reducing stress levels; and avoiding toxins like cigarettes or recreational drugs when possible. In addition to these lifestyle changes, some people may benefit from supplementing their diets with vitamins or herbs known for their hormone-balancing properties such as chasteberry, ginseng, maca root powder, or dong quai root extract.
Ultimately, understanding hormones and how they affect us on a daily basis can provide us with vital insight into how we can better take care of ourselves throughout our lives. It’s important that we learn more about how modern life influences hormonal balance so that we can make informed decisions about how best to maintain good health as we age!
